Wine BottlesWine festivals aim to highlight the yearly wine produce in a certain area. And with California having etched a name for itself as a premier wine producing state, there are various wine festivals being held yearly to promote and highlight their wine produce. Here are some of the more interesting ones.

Napa Valley Mustard Festival

Napa Valley is considered as "wine country" in California. The festival is a two-month long celebration after a lull in the busy Napa Valley year. It is the time when wild mustard blooms and the time when the locals begin to celebrate wine, food and art. It starts at the beginning of February and ends sometime in March.

Wine Road Barrel Tasting Weekends

This festival starts sometime in March and goes for two weekends. More than 100 wineries found in Russian River, Dry Creek and Alexander Valleys open up their doors to visitors who may want to have a taste of their wines. Wines are taken for tasting right from the barrels instead of right from the bottle, making it quite an interesting experience for wine enthusiasts.

Paso Robles Hospice du Rhone

This 3-day wine festival in early May highlights the wines produced from the unique Rhone varieties grown in the region. It is also a time when an international group of Rhone variety wine producers gather into Paso Robles in the yearly event to celebrate and further their knowledge on the 22 Rhone varieties through wine tastings, food and camaraderie. It is considered to be one of the largest celebrations associated with the Rhone varietals in the world.

Sonoma Jazz Festival

Sonoma Valley is another area in California famous for its wines. And to celebrate, Sonoma Valley holds a yearly music and wine festival late in May. It is highlighted by jazz, rock and world music performers gathering together and play in a 3,800 person capacity tent in downtown Sonoma. Smaller events highlighting food and wine are also being held all around town during the same period.

Auction Napa Valley

This celebration is highlighted by the world’s biggest charity wine auction. Napa Valley vintners gather together for a cause every June to hold a series of dinner parties along with wine auctions . Various Napa Valley vintners also open up their wineries to give visitors a glimpse of their lives highlighted by a celebration of food and wine.

Sonoma County Harvest Fair

This festival highlights the time when Sonoma Valley goes into its harvest season in early October. It is a 3-day event highlighted by a celebration of food and wine along with carnival rides, cooking demos, and other agricultural-related shows. It also holds the World Championship Grape Stomp with the celebrations usually held at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds in Santa Rosa, CA.
