The 2008 ushers in a new batch of Sauternes dessert wines, most with 2005 vintage. Check out which wines are being anticipated by wine reviewers as having the most impact among consumers.

Chateau Doisy Vedrines Sauternes 2005 – Wine Spectator judges this French wine with a score between 92 to 94 points. The flavor is comparable to dried pineapples with honey and flowers. Full-bodied and medium-sweet, with fresh acidity and a spicy finish. This will be available at around $39.

Chateau d’Arche Sauternes 2005 – The 2005 vintage of this dessert wine is that of elegance with good concentration, possessing a complex and harmonious aroma with a dominance of apricot, orange peel, and exotic fruit. The wine is very expressive to the palate, with notes of candied fruit, apricot, melon jam, and grilled almonds. Wine Spectator grades this as between 92 and 94 points, and will be available at around $34.
