Who says we can’t find the most superb of wines, those that are graded 90 and above, at under $10? Certainly not us! We have searched the world for the best wines that are not only invigorating but also inexpensive.

Ercavio Roble La Mancha 2005 – Graded by Jay Miller with 90 points. Made in Spain’s La Mancha region, this 2005 vintage from Tempranillo is a remarkable value. It was aged for 5 months in French and American oak. It possesses a purple color, with a fragrance that reminds one of spice box, tobacco, blueberry, and blackberry. This wine has a full-body with lots of ripe fruit, a firm structure, and a lingering 40-second finish. This is expected to go better after 2008, but why wait for that? Costs around $8.

Di Majo Norante Sangiovese IGT 2005 – Graded by Robert Parker with 90 points. This 2005 Sangiovese vintage has an amazing display of strawberry and black cherry intermixed with dusty fragrance that is also reminiscent of new saddle leather and earth. It is expected to reach its optimum quality 2008. Costs around $7.

Viña Casablanca Nimbus Estate Sauvignon Blanc 2006 – Graded by Jay Miller with 90 points. This Sauvignon Blanc white wine is created by one of the top wineries in Chile, harvested from a single vineyard. This has a splendid scent of mineral, fresh herbs, citrus, and lemon-lime that jumps right off the glass.

Domaine de la Garrigue Cotes du Rhone Cuvee Romaine 2005 – Graded by Robert Parker with 91 points. Produced in the Rhone region located in southeast France, this blend consists mostly of Grenache, with Mourvedre and a hint of Syrah. This wine comes from the estate’s oldest head-pruned vines of 60 to 90 years old. Its color has a dense purple ruby with terrific black cherry and black currant fruit. Can also smell of basil, cinnamon, and brown sugar. Tasting tests concludes this having full-bodied essence of Provencal fruit, herbs, incense, and spice. Recommended to be drunk especially after 2015. Costs around $10.

San Alejandro Las Rocas Calatayud Garnacha 2005 – Graded by Jay Miller with 90 points. This Garnacha (Grenache) red wine is produced in Calatayud, 150 miles northeast of Madrid. It is sourced from low-yielding vineyards ranging from 70 to 100 years. The color possesses a deep purple ruby translucence, with florals of plum, cherry, and bourbon. Medium-bodied to the taste, with a dry gravelly grip on the finish. Costs around $8.
